Small Moments

The inception of music concerts has been a blessing in this messed up world of today. It’s something which takes one to a place where there is nothing but absolute bliss. A place where none of the everyday problems clings to you. At least that’s what I feel about music gigs.

A couple of days back, one of my personal favourite U.K. group of trio  named ‘Above & Beyond’ had been to my city on a  mini tour.  This group is…let’s just say, simply incredible at the music they create! Sadly, I never got a chance in the past to attend a live concert of theirs. So the moment I received the news of them performing at Mumbai, I don’t think I have ever booked tickets at such a swift pace for any event as I did for theirs!

And the waiting game began. Day-dreaming about the event, imagining the tracks which will be played at the venue and keeping an eye out on social media pages for any new updates was a favourite pastime.

Since the group was close to heart, your’s truly had planned for posting twitter requests for tracks to play and getting few clicks for creating new memories. Suffice to say, planning was done to the detail and was counting down the days.

And then Above & Beyond happened!

The moment they took the sage with a ‘Hello’, confetti and the crowd’s roar reached sky high! Giddy with excitement, we cheered on top-of-our-lungs when they started belting hits after hits of their amazing soundtracks. We literally went above and beyond of this earth’s dimension.

Those 2 hours of non-stop music and dance engulfed people with just pure pleasure. Nothing else mattered as we were experiencing something too beautiful to put it into words here. The cheering of crowds, the grooving to tracks and to see happiness in everyone’s eyes was so emotionally powerful that I can never get over anytime soon.

As the world slowly returned to Earth from their music, I couldn’t help but remember the lines from one of their songs…

Time held its breath
A motionless spell of rapture
Across the room
A memory had been captured

A Concert That Couldn’t Be Better!

A great roar ushered the band into the spotlight. Waves of hands rose to greet them. The guy at the center, a tall broad men with a jovial smile imprinted on his face, made the heart throb of thousands like me. Knowing what was in store for the next hour, I couldn’t but be giddy with excitement. I could almost the imagine the spectrum of sound-waves dancing through Byculla’s Richardson & Cruddas.

Maybe I should start at the beginning. I was at a music concert of #RedBullTourBus in Mumbai. They had promised an #OffTheRoof experience and they delivered it one hundred percent. An amazing set of artists performed to the crowds delight. But I am talking about that one band who made me feel something that I never experienced before. They are well known as the team behind ‘The Raghu Dixit Project’.

I am sure not many of you readers know them but I would recommend to give a try to their music. They have created the best folk-rock music I have ever heard.

The bunch of us were already swooning to the rhythm of the guitars and they were not even at their full mast! As the time progressed, so did their music. Combining flute, guitar, drums and instruments-I-can’t-even-spell, they created magic at the venue. The kind of magic where u ‘hear‘ music instead of ‘seeing‘ the laserlights and the fireworks. The kind of magic where every instrument can be heard explicitly. The kind of magic where the music and vocals create goosebumps so deep that you feel the tingling sensation all over the body!

I was so lost in their music that as I came down from the crescendo, a couple of people next to me pointed out, ”Dude you were so immersed in their music that we thought you were meditating.” And although it didn’t strike me at that moment, that was The Best Compliment I ever got in a music concert and all I could mumble was, “They are amazing!”

And as I got back from the heaven of Raghu Dixit’s vocals, his team’s music and the crowd’s aura of chorus I realized I was a witness to something beyond extraordinary.

And as I was leaving the venue, I achieved a milestone of meeting the man himself. Shaking hands, all yours truly did was mumble like an idiot how awesome was their performance while in my head all I could think was ‘Thank you deeply for this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious experience!

Song of Summer

We all have songs that remind us of specific periods and events in our lives. Twenty years from now, which song will remind you of the summer of 2014?

As Ray Charles said, ”Music to me is like breathing – I don’t get tired of breathing, I don’t get tired of music.” That’s my motto – Living for music! Hearing new sounds everyday or the same one’s in a different way. The honks of cars in streets, the patter of raindrops or my mom’s yelling styles. Everyone of them has its own unique style.

Being a music fan, today’s blog is kind of special one for me. But selecting special song is probably not my area of expertise. But this summer has been one of the best one’s for me. So many artists, so many genres and so many beats…suffice to say, its been one hell of a summer for me. For starters, I have listened to more number of songs this month than the whole year. If you fellow bloggers need to see my taste of music, you can check it out on Soundcloud.

So this summer will always remind me some of the best tracks I grooved to. And also the symphony of the world around me. Each of them is unique and if we listen and i mean really listen, its all around us.

The Symphony

Do you play an instrument? Is there a musical instrument whose sound you find particularly pleasing? Tell us a story about your experience or relationship with an instrument of your choice.

Music, instruments and symphony are the profound basis of our lively existence. According to a legend know as Bob Marley, ‘One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.‘ and who is to say he is wrong? Music, today is not just something to please the ears. It has become a passion for so many artistes.

Instruments are the most essential thing which is useful for creation of music. Every instrument plays an important role in creating the symphony which makes us to tap our feet when our favorite song comes on.

Every piece and type of musical instruments are pleasing to sound, when they are at right hands. And I don’t mean music professionals. Good music can be created by any person who needs to express themselves. For me, I have got a soft spot for one such instrument, the one which always pleases me. Its not an instrument per say, but its the one for me…always!

Its called as sea waves. Nothing beats the music of waves crashing over. Listen to it with eyes closed and I can almost feel the aura of bliss it creates. And as Plato says,”Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.

Committed to Music…Now comitting to Writing about it.

Well I would admit, the first time I heard about this assignment to write about the 3 most significant songs…I was stumped! For one thing, most of the songs in my collection are pretty significant to me. Its not easy to write about just three bcos as a music lover, every music is very helpful in some kind of way. Whatever the emotions, every piece of music plays an important role in my life. So begging forgiveness fromthe other songs, I have chosen the ones which I have felt have been very…i think the word Im searching for is ‘influential’ for me till now.

I know one thing for sure with this assignment is I will get to know various genres and songs from various fellow 101 bloggers and im sure im going to love those blogs. Actually I had written reently a blog related to music and there i had said muisc doesnt help to solve the problems but it sure helps to forget it for a while.

Music has the power to calm the heart down when its hurting and also helps to pump the energy, the zeal when required. Personally even though whatever the swirling emotions i go through in a day, music always..and i repeat always, has provided a soothing effect. A blanket of calm when sad and rainbow of joy when happy. The instruments, the chorus, the vocals, every part necessary for creation helps me. I wiuld like to thank all those music makers for helping me as always, since I was a kid.

O yea..almost forgot the 3 significant songs for me…

  1. Above & Beyond Feat Richard Bedford – Thing Called Love
  2. Nelly Furtado – All Good Things (Come To An End)
  3. Coldplay – Paradise

Does Music has the Power to Heal?

That’s the question I am stumped on right now. Usually the crazy questions comes while I am about to sleep, but since this one has chosen this moment to form in my head; I will ponder over it while I listen to music.

For my answer to be understood, I would like to start somewhere it makes sense. Recently I was going through a…let’s say, difficult situation and I was sad about it. And the only thing which helped me was music of-course! There is nothing more soothing than a beautiful piece of melody with instruments and nothing more powerful than the dancing to those beats. Whatever the occasion or situation, music always helps. I know it doesn’t provide a solution but it surely helps to forget the problem for a while, at least.

Currently music is evolving at such breakneck speed that even the sky doesn’t seem to be the limit. Every day, we hear new things that make us yearn for more. Be it Mozart or Coldplay, EDM or Rock music, every single one of them helps to go through the day or night. And for music lovers, it’s the connection to discover the sole purpose of being. Each music is a gem in itself and the people who make it.

So does Music really help? My answer is, it gives the strength to face the difficult situation, which is a part in healing process and spread the happiness. So, till next time, keep dancing to those beats!
