The Watermelon Box

You’re at the beach with some friends and/or family, enjoying the sun, nibbling on some watermelon. All of a sudden, within seconds, the weather shifts and hale starts descending form the sky. Write a post about what happens next.

Ahh…the beach. The sand, the blissful environment and the watermelon…just perfect place to live in! And then it starts to happen. The bright sunny atmosphere slowly starts to change its face. Its getting darker now, as if something sinister is approaching. The evidence is clear, all the birds have stopped their chirping and the crowd is getting little apprehensive. And out of nowhere, tiny specks of rain starts to descend. Initially its like snowing and then WHAM! a pellet a size of tennis ball lands splat beside my remaining watermelon box.

What the hell?‘ That’s the first thought which forms in my brain. ‘Is Thor coming here?‘ that’s the second thought which forms. But before I could even chuckle at that thought and realizes what’s happening, the army of hailstones are upon us. Instincts kick in. Evasive maneuver with just a shield of watermelon box is the only thing keeping me safe from stings.

Everyone at the beach is running helter-skelter. Survival is the only thing in everyone’s mind. The laugh of children is now replaced by cry of fear. Everything just changed in a matter of moments. People huddle under the roof for safety, praying why did hail befall on them.

And suddenly, the prayers have been answered. The hailstorm stops. The dark clouds shift away slowly. People come out of the hiding…bruised and relieved. My eyes fall on the watermelon box I used as shield and the only thing I can think of is ‘Thank heavens, atleast there are some watermelons left to eat.
